Alternate Economies

Is the market economy the only economy? For many years I was consumed with alternate economies such as gift economies. And I played with different types of cryptocurrency tokens to express these alternate experiences…. like creating an unpaid labor coin.

David Graeber’s Debt and Charles Eisenstein’s Sacred Economics are two of my favorites.

Last week I heard Ursula Huws speak and read her paper, SOCIAL REPRODUCTION IN TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY CAPITALISM. She identifies something call consumption labor, this is the labor you to interact with some sort of process, like get money from an ATM machine, or fill out forms, or perhaps follow a school curriculum at home. It is the of loading of labor that someone use to be paid to do, to someone who is not paid. My theory is that there is a relationship between consumption labor and technology. The more technology the more consumptive labor, there is a difference between labor one does to reproduce oneself (cook, eat, homeschooling) and labor one does to replicate the superstructure (consumptive labor)
